At Pilina Vet, we work, play, and grow together.

We cultivate an inspired and energetic culture.

Let us share it with you.

Dr. Sara L Federschmidt, DVM

Dr. Sara grew up in a small farming town in central California.  She attended the University of San Diego and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science with honors. After graduation, she served in the U.S. Navy as a P-3C Naval Flight Officer. She left active duty to pursue her passion for medicine and graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida, also with high honors. Concurrently she also earned a certificate in Veterinary Business Management.

When not at the clinic, Dr. Sara enjoys surfing and short walks along Kailua Beach.  Her family includes her husband Franz, daughters Dixie, Betty, and Lucy, and feline family member, Sparkles.

Franz Federschmidt, CEO

CEO Franz, originally from Florida, came to love the Kailua community while stationed here over a decade ago as a P-C3 Naval Flight Officer. While here, he and Dr. Sara became acquainted, and later married in Waimanalo.

At Pilina Vet, Franz has many roles. For the clinic, he maintains the budget and finances, assists with IT issues, leads marketing efforts, and is the overall visionary of Pilina Vet. Franz has a special interest in artificial intelligence, and is always on the lookout for ways to implement into the practice.

Outside of Pilina Vet, you can find Franz enjoying a coffee at Kalapawai market, or relaxing with his family at one of the Windward beaches! Together with his wife (Dr. Sara), Franz is raising three young daughters, and a cat named Sparkles at home.
